ClearScreen is a digital clinical toolkit that accurately reads, records, and reports Rapid Diagnostic tests like lateral flow and urine dip tests. The solution includes a mobile app and a web portal for review and reporting.

Can ClearScreen work in my clinical organisation to read and record point of care rapid diagnostic tests?

Can you provide devices to run ClearScreen?

Can ClearScreen integrate with my Electronic Health Record (EHR)?

Yes! We can usually use existing middleware to provide a unidirectional integration without touching your core EHR. We can also build an integration directly if needed.

Is my patient’s data safe?

Yes! ClearScreen does not use or require any patient data except a single unique patient identifier. No patient data is stored on the mobile device.

Using a TestCard

What is a TestCard?

A TestCard is a simple pouch holding a set of test strips. Coupled with a smartphone app, it provides immediate, medical grade test results from the comfort of your own home.

What type of tests can I take?

Our first at-home self test is a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) test. Combined with our App, if you test positive for a UTI you will have immediate access to treatment via an online pharmacy.

This means you could have treatment delivered to your home the next day and save a trip to the GP.

You can buy one online now from Superdrug and many other pharmacies across the UK.

How does it work?

TestCard uses a set of test strips and a smartphone App to give you immediate, medical grade test results in the comfort of your own home. With the added bonus of giving you instant access to treatment if you test positive for a UTI.

The TestCard App combines the power of your smartphone and clinical scanning technology. It works in the same way as a test completed in a lab.

Our App is actually more accurate than the human eye at seeing changes in the colours on the testing strip!

How accurate are the results?

The TestCards are over 99% accurate in comparison with equivalent clinical laboratory testing – our tests are professional standard, the same as a laboratory test.

Our technology was proven to deliver a greater level of reliability in a pilot study that pitted TestCard against fixed terminal scanners (used in hospitals and clinics around the world). Read more here.

Yes, absolutely. Your personal information is protected by multiple layers of encryption and access control. Our tests are for anyone who’s experiencing symptoms and would like a faster route to finding out if treatment is needed.

I’m a carer, is TestCard suitable for my patients?

Yes, it’s suitable for anyone experiencing symptoms, including anyone you may be caring for. Using a TestCard in the comfort of your home or care setting can reduce the risk of moving frail patients.

How do I make a complaint?

How do I delete or edit my details in my TestCard account?

Making changes to your account is simple, easy, and you can do it via the app.

Making Changes via the App:

Once logged into the App, go to the “account” tab at the bottom of the screen and press the “edit” icon in the top right. From there, you’ll be able to edit your user details which includes your name, phone number and our health profile, or delete your account.

Other Changes:

If you would like to change the email address associated with your account, you can do so by contacting our support team on [email protected], stating that you want your details to be updated.

Do the testing strips expire?

The expiry length depends on the type of test – our UTI tests last up to 16 months. The sealed pouch keeps the tests fresh and the expiry date is on each individual pouch and our external packaging. Don’t worry – the App also checks each test when you start and won’t let you use an out-of-date test.

How do I request a refund?

Taking Your Test

How do I take a test?

The TestCard App guides you through each step of the process.

Step 1 – Before you get started
Have your TestCard test kit ready and collect your sample in a clean container. Tear open the pouch, hold the test strip at the top and use your camera to scan the QR Code.

This tells the App which type of test you’re taking.

Step 2 – Take the Test
Dip the test strip into your sample for a couple of seconds. Ensure the strip is wet above all of the squares but below the ‘max wet’ line.

Step 3 – Scan the Strip
Hold the test strip at the top and scan using the App. Align the strip to the blue guides on the screen.

Step 4 – Your result is ready!
You can choose to share your results with a healthcare professional or select treatment if available.

It’s really important to carefully read the instructions for use before you take the test.

What are the benefits of having a TestCard account?

When you have a TestCard account you can go back to any of your results at any time. This is really useful when you need to share them with a doctor or another health professional. When you have an account, all of your data is securely stored in the App with a unique encryption key.

If you take the test as a guest user, your results are not saved in the App. We recommend setting up an account to allow you to benefit from features such as saving your results, tracking any treatment options you select, and giving you fast and easy access to our support team if you need it.

What do I use to collect the urine?

You can use any size and type of everyday container. Just make sure it’s clean before you use it (it doesn’t need to be sterilised).

How much urine do I need to collect?

The test will work with around 30ml. You’ll see more advice in the App as you take the test.

Can I get the test wrong?

As long as you follow the easy, step-by-step guide in the App your results will be accurate. It’s really important to read the full instructions for use carefully before you take the test.

I’ve accidentally ripped the strip in half, can I still use it?

You need to be able to hold the test strip at the top whilst you dip it into the sample.

The QR code and ‘squares’ need to be intact.

If any of these parts are damaged or you can’t hold the test at the top, we’d recommend using a new test strip.

If you’ve already used both of your tests and have not yet received your results in the app, please get in touch with us via the customer contact form and we will be happy to help.

I’ve followed all the instructions but I can’t get it to work, what should I do?

Do I need the App to take a test?

Yes!

Our app gives you precise, accurate results through digital scanning with advanced lab-quality detailed results for each of the indicators measured.

It provides a clear YES or NO result in simple language and will give you access to a treatment pathway to suit your needs by either ordering your prescription via our app, or letting you share your results with a healthcare professional.

Is TestCard right for me?

Anyone with symptoms of a UTI can take a test; however, there are certain types of complicated UTIs for which treatment may not be recommended via the TestCard app.

If you suffer from chronic, embedded or any other complicated UTI, you can still take a test – however, you may be referred to a healthcare professional for further testing and treatment. If you’d like to find out more about whether TestCard is right for you, check out this blog.

Results and Treatment Options

How do I get treatment if I have a positive test?

If you bought your TestCard from Superdrug, you can access their online doctor service – this will be shown to you within the TestCard App on the test results page.

If you bought your TestCard from anywhere else, in-store or online, we have partnered with Superdrug and local pharmacies who can provide online treatment services UK wide, delivered to your door the next day.

You can also choose to share your results with your own doctor or healthcare professional.

Can you arrange a prescription for me based on my results?

Yes we can!

No matter where you purchased your TestCard in the UK we can get you treatment.

Do I have to match the test strip colours myself?

No, that’s what our TestCard App does for you. It’s much more accurate than the human eye – and works the same as a laboratory test. When you finish, the App will show you a simple result with no technical jargon.

I bought my TestCard from Superdrug - how do I get treatment from them?

We’ve partnered with Superdrug to provide online access to both testing and treatment across the UK.

If you test positive, you can follow the simple steps in the TestCard App to send your results to one of their fully qualified pharmacists. They will review the results and, if necessary, prescribe treatment for you to collect in your nearest store.

Alternatively, it can be sent to you via next day delivery – this ensures you can get tested and treated all via the TestCard App without leaving your home.

Do you want to know more about Superdrug and their treatment service?

Why is there a price difference between a prescription through the app and through a GP?

Our partners provide private paid-for prescription services, without the need for an appointment with a doctor.

The price includes the cost of the pharmacist’s consultation of your results and health questionnaire, the cost of the treatment and the cost of delivery.

You do not have to purchase the treatment through the app and could still choose to make an appointment with your doctor to have a consultation for treatment. However, this could take longer than the services via the app who would deliver directly to your door or offer an in-store pickup.

I want to share my results with my own healthcare professional - How do I do this?

The easiest way to save and share your results with your healthcare professional is with a TestCard account.

TestCard account holders:
You can always see all of your results because they are saved in the App.

  1. Go to your account area and you’ll see a list of your results

  2. Choose the one you want to share

  3. Tap on ‘More Info’ for a detailed view of your results

    • You can now either:

      1. Show this detailed view to your healthcare professional in person or over a video consultation; or

      2. Select ‘Share Results’ to digitally send the results to the healthcare professional if they have a secure way for you to do this, e.g. email or messaging app

Guest users:
You need to take a screenshot of the result before you leave the App because it won’t be saved without a TestCard account.

  1. Stay on the App test result screen

  2. Tap on ‘More Info’ for a detailed view of your results

  3. Take a screenshot of your results

    • You can now either:

      1. Show this detailed view to your healthcare professional in person or over a video consultation; or

      2. Select ‘Share Results’ to digitally send the results to the healthcare professional if they have a secure way for you to do this, e.g. email or messaging app

We are also integrated with Patients Know Best, so you can share your results to your PKB account with one click!

Can the test show a false positive result?

When you take any urine test there are other factors that could create false positive results – for example blood in your urine during menstruation. It’s really important to carefully read the full instructions for use before you take the test.

How will healthcare professionals use the results?

They’ll use them in the same way as they would use the results from a professional laboratory. The detailed results produced by a TestCard test contain the same data they are provided from a laboratory test. TestCard is also CE Mark approved so they can be confident it’s met the right standards to be used as a medical device.

I’ve deleted the App - can I still see my TestCard results?

If you had a TestCard account when you took the test, you can download the App again at any time and log into your account to see your previous results.

How can I prevent a UTI?

Whilst you can’t completely prevent UTIs, there are several steps you can take to try and reduce the risk of infection. These include increasing your water intake, eating a healthy, balanced diet and taking extra care during and after sex.

What do I do if I think I have an infection?

If your TestCard test shows positive or you have persistent symptoms you should contact your healthcare professional. Diagnosis and treatment can be provided by your GP, doctor-on-demand services or directly from some pharmacies with a test and treat service

What are the symptoms of a UTI?

These are some of the symptoms:

  1. A strong and persistent urge to urinate

  2. A burning sensation when you urinate

  3. Passing frequent and small amounts of urine

  4. Urine that appears cloudy

  5. Urine that appears red, bright pink or dark-coloured – this is a sign of blood in the urine

  6. Strong smelling urine

  7. Pelvic pain, in women – especially in the centre of the pelvis and around the area of the pubic bone

What is a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)?

A UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) is an infection in any part of your urinary system. This includes your kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. The most common types of infections are cystitis in the bladder or urethritis in the urthera. UTIs are very common, more so in women than in men

What are the potential complications from UTIs?

Lower urinary tract infections rarely lead to complications when they are treated promptly and properly. But left untreated, a urinary tract infection can have serious consequences that include:

  1. Repeated infections. This happens most for women who have more than two UTIs in six months or more than four in twelve months.

  2. Permanent kidney damage from an acute or chronic kidney infection (pyelonephritis) due to an untreated UTI.

  3. Increased risk in pregnant women of delivery low birth weight or premature infants.

  4. Urethral narrowing (stricture) in men from recurrent urethritis, previously seen with gonococcal urethritis.

  5. Sepsis, a potentially life-threatening complication of an infection, especially if the infection works its way up your urinary tract to your kidneys.

I’m a pharmacist - how do I stock TestCard in my shop(s)?

You can buy TestCard at Alliance Healthcare or Phoenix Medical Supplies, or directly from TestCard using the link. You do not need to run a UTI treatment service to stock TestCard. TestCard has a treatment option available for customers through the app if they test positive for a UTI. You can still stock TestCard for your customers and they can still access treatment.

Does TestCard’s UTI test help with antibiotic stewardship?

Yes! PharmaDoctor’s UTI PGD recommends using a TestCard UTI test kit to test for a UTI – supporting NICE guidance on antibiotic stewardship Antimicrobial stewardship | Medicines guidance | BNF content published by NICE to ensure antibiotic treatments are offered to patients experiencing both symptoms with the presence of nitrites and leukocytes and increase in PH levels of urine.
