Frequently asked questions
What is borosilicate 3.3 glass?
It is glass with a low coefficient of thermal expansion (3.3), giving far better thermal-shock resistance than standard soda-lime lab glass. Benchmark's Hybex bottles are made from it and tolerate -70 °C to +500 °C, so they survive freezers, microwaves, autoclaves, and dry-heat sterilization over repeated cycles.
What does GL45 mean on a media bottle?
GL45 is the standard 45 mm screw-thread neck finish used on most lab media bottles, so caps, pouring rings, and dispensing accessories interchange across brands. Hybex bottles ship with a blue polypropylene GL45 cap and drip-free sealing ring; only the small 50 ml size uses a GL32 cap.
Can I autoclave media bottles with the cap on?
The glass and the polypropylene caps are both autoclave-rated, but good practice is to loosen the cap during autoclaving so pressure can equalize and steam reaches the interior. Tighten only after the bottle cools to avoid vacuum lock and cap deformation.
Where can Israeli labs buy Hybex glass bottles?
Hybex media bottles and flasks reach Israeli labs through Danyel Biotech, Benchmark Scientific's official distributor in Israel — with local inventory and fast quotes on single sizes, starter packs, and colored-cap assortments.
