Frequently asked questions

What is a point-of-care analyzer?

A point-of-care analyzer is a compact instrument that measures a diagnostic parameter next to the patient, in the emergency department, the ICU, a ward or a clinic, instead of sending the sample to the central laboratory. It runs single-use cartridges or cassettes and returns a result within minutes, so a clinical decision can be taken during the same encounter.

How is a near-patient immunoassay analyzer different from a rapid-test reader?

A rapid-test reader photographs a lateral-flow cassette and converts the line intensity into a standardised, recorded result. A near-patient immunoassay analyzer runs the whole assay inside a cartridge and reports a quantitative or semi-quantitative concentration, closer to a laboratory result.

Which point-of-care instruments does Danyel Biotech supply in Israel?

Danyel Biotech supplies the QIAGEN QIAstat-Dx Analyzer 2.0 and QIAstat-Dx Rise syndromic testing systems, the Coyote Bioscience FlashDetect Flash10 molecular point-of-care PCR system and the nal von minden NADAL PCR Analyzer PRO1 and PRO8 in Israel. Buying Guide

Start from the test menu: a point-of-care analyzer only runs the cartridges or cassettes made for it, so choose the instrument by the parameters you need at the bedside (sepsis and infection markers, cardiac markers, hormones, drugs of abuse) and check that each test is CE-IVD for your setting. Then compare sample type and volume (a fingerstick drop versus venous blood), time to result, how results reach your LIS/HIS, and the maintenance and calibration the device needs between runs. A reader for lateral-flow cassettes removes reading errors and keeps a record; a benchtop immunoassay analyzer gives quantitative results.
