The ASKION C-line® hermetic storage (HS200) is an efficient and automated storage system for biobanks, biorepositories and LN2 based storage collections. The automated biobanking solution is available in 3 sizes (HS200 S/M/L). To ensure safe sample storage and best sample quality, the samples are stored at cryogenic temperatures at down to -185 °C. Thanks to the directly connected hood structure, samples can be handled at fully automated cryogenic temperatures down to below -130 °C. The sample is handled by a robot either in the form of individual samples and / or in SBS rack format inside the cryogenic environment. This structure enables an ice-free and contamination-free automated sample handling while maintaining a continuous cold chain. This unique setting, consisting of ultralow-temperature storage, automated cryogenic sample handling and a continuous cold chain, ensures maximum sample quality for decades.
The HS200 is the cryogenic state-of-the-art storage solution for establishing small (a few thousand samples) to very large (million samples) and semi-automated to fully automated biobanks, biorepositories and LN2 based storage collections.
Individual HS200 can be installed and can be connected to each other at any time for automated sample transfer while maintaining a continuous cold chain. Due to the modular structure of the biobank, biorepositories or LN2 based storage collections can grow individually over time, without influencing existing work processes or samples that have already been stored.
The documentation of all relevant system parameters as well as the complete sample data management is done by our software solution ASKION C-line® Control.

| What are the recommended temperatures for sample storage? | The recommended sample storage temperature depends, among other things, on the sample content (cells, serum, etc.), the storage period and the downstream application. If these parameters are known, a precise selection can be made. An example of this would be the storage of stem cells and ATMPs for later transplants. These must be stored below -150°C. However, if not all parameters have been conclusively clarified, storage should always be as cold as possible. |
| What does "uninterrupted cold chain" mean and why is it essential? | Uninterrupted cold chain means, using the ASKION C-line® system, that the samples are never handled, transferred, or stored above -100°C. These cryogenic temperatures are crucial to avoid freezing/warm-up cycles and the associated reduction in sample quality, as well as icing, and thus a loss of traceability. |
| Which sample formats can be frozen and stored in the C-line® system? | The ASKION C-line® system can be adapted to almost any sample format from different manufacturers. |
| Which freezing curves and freezing gradients can be achieved in the C-line® work bench? | The possible freezing gradients are between 0.1 K/min and 50 K/min. The freezing curves can be created individually. In addition to constantly decreasing cooling rates, variable rates can also be mapped. |
| Which media/connections are needed to operate the ASKION C-line® components? | The exact number of media required depends on the device(s) to be installed and varies between 1 and 5. The maximum required media are: liquid nitrogen, power connection (16 A), network connection, ventilation system (fresh air supply, exhaust air) and an oxygen warning system. |
| What certification does Askion meet? | Askion is, amongst others, certified according to ISO9001 and ISO13485. |
| What are the delivery times? | Delivery times depend on the product to be delivered. It can range from a few days to 12 months (e.g. for the HS200 L). For further details, please contact your contact person. |
| How long do I get warranty? | The warranty on all Askion products is 12 months. |
| How long will I receive spare parts? | Askion guarantees a spare parts supply for at least 10 years. For maximum protection, you can also conclude an escrow agreement. |
