AST Systems & Readers

Collection: AST Readers & Instruments

Instruments for antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST): automated rapid AST systems that report MICs directly from positive blood cultures, and antibiogram readers that incubate and read disk-diffusion plates. The panels, disks and reagents they run are listed under AST Panels, Disks & Reagents.

Frequently asked questions

What is a rapid AST system?

A rapid antimicrobial susceptibility testing system determines which antibiotics a pathogen is susceptible to without waiting for a pure isolate. dRAST, for example, takes an aliquot of a positive blood culture, immobilises the bacteria in agarose in a 96-well antibiotic panel and reads their growth by time-lapse microscopy, reporting MIC-based results in as low as 4 hours instead of 2 to 3 days.

What is the difference between an AST system and an antibiogram reader?

An AST system runs the whole susceptibility test inside the instrument on its own panels. An antibiogram reader automates an existing disk-diffusion workflow: it incubates the agar plates, photographs them, measures the inhibition zones and interprets them against EUCAST or CLSI breakpoints.

Which AST instruments does Danyel Biotech supply in Israel?

Danyel Biotech supplies the QuantaMatrix dRAST rapid AST system for positive blood cultures, with antibiogram readers being added. Prices are quoted on request - use Request a Quote on any product page.

Buying Guide

Decide what the instrument has to answer first. A rapid AST system such as dRAST works directly from a positive blood culture and reports MICs in hours, which matters most for sepsis and bloodstream infections; an antibiogram reader automates the incubation and reading of disk-diffusion plates you already run. Then check the sample it accepts, the panels or disks it is validated with, the guideline sets its expert system supports (EUCAST, CLSI, CA-SFM), random-access capacity, bi-directional LIS connectivity and the daily maintenance it needs.
