Frequently asked questions
When do I need filter pipette tips?
Whenever aerosols could contaminate your pipette or the next sample — PCR and qPCR setup, nucleic-acid work, infectious materials, or volatile liquids. Sapphire filter tips use a hydrophobic polyethylene barrier that blocks aerosols; the filter is not self-sealing, so if liquid accidentally reaches it, the whole sample can still be recovered.
What are low-retention tips and when are they worth it?
Low-retention tips have a hydrophobic inner surface that lets liquid sheet off instead of clinging, cutting the residual volume left in the tip. They pay off with detergent-containing buffers, precious enzymes, and small volumes where a clinging droplet is a real percentage error. Greiner offers Sapphire low-retention versions with and without filters.
Do Sapphire tips fit pipettes from other manufacturers?
Greiner publishes a tip-fit chart matching Sapphire tips to common pipette models from the major brands. Volumes span 10 µl to 1250 µl, including XL lengths, in racked sterile and non-sterile formats — check the chart or ask us to confirm the fit for your pipettes.
Why do serological pipettes have two graduation scales and a plug?
CELLSTAR serological pipettes carry ascending and descending graduations so volume can be read during both aspiration and dispensing. The plug in the mouthpiece is a filter barrier that stops liquid from being drawn into the pipette controller. Sizes run 1 to 50 ml, with compact Shorties and plug-free aspiration models for special cases.
Who supplies Greiner pipette tips and serological pipettes in Israel?
Israeli labs order Sapphire tips and CELLSTAR serological pipettes through Danyel Biotech — Greiner Bio-One's official distributor for Israel — which keeps routine liquid-handling formats in local stock and quotes quickly on standing orders.
