SIRscan Discs Cefepime - Discs used for bacterial antibiotic susceptibility testing by the agar disc-diffusion method (Kirby-Bauer). How can one perform a quality antibiogram tests without best in class antibiotic disks? For over 20 years, i2a has provided laboratories with a wide range of high-quality antibiotic discs. Compliant with international recommendations (EUCAST, CASFM, CLSI, …), these disks are available in 1×50 or 5×50 packaging (each cartridge individually wrapped), catering to the activity volume of each laboratory. Our specialized disk dispensers make antibiotic disk deposition on agar straightforward, precise, and fast. Paired with our SIRscan machines (SIRscan Orion and SIRscan Lynx), using our antibiotic disks allows automatic reading of symbols, strengthening traceability and control for each analysis.

SIRscan discs are used for in vitro antibiotic susceptibility testing of rapidly growing bacteria and certain fastidious species by the agar diffusion method, according to FDA and WHO standards - the standardized procedure adopted by CA-SFM, EUCAST and CLSI.

SIRscan discs are prepared by impregnating high-quality absorbent paper with accurately determined concentrations of antibiotic agents, according to FDA standards. They are 6 mm discs, clearly marked on both sides with letters and/or numbers, furnished in cartridges of 50 discs packed in sealed bags containing a desiccant.

Inhibition zone diameters are measured to the nearest millimetre (ruler, calliper or a SIRscan reader) and interpreted with the CA-SFM, EUCAST or CLSI breakpoints to categorise the isolate as Susceptible, Intermediate or Resistant.

Storage and handling

Upon receipt, store discs in a dry place between +2 °C and +8 °C (red blisters) or at -20 °C ± 5 °C (blue blisters). After opening, store in a dry place between 2 and 25 °C for a maximum of 35 days (7 or 14 days for the references listed in appendix 2 of the IFU). When the cartridges are placed in the dispenser, keep it in its case with a desiccant renewed weekly, protected from light. Do not use discs without running a quality control if they were stored inappropriately; test the discs on the quality-control strains defined by the current CA-SFM / EUCAST / CLSI recommendations.
