What is an AST panel kit?
An AST panel kit holds a plate of dried-down antibiotics at several concentrations plus the reagents the instrument needs to grow and read the bacteria. The QuantaMatrix QMAC-dRAST kit, for example, contains the 96-well antibiotic panel, agarose for immobilising the bacteria and broth, and comes as a Gram-negative or a Gram-positive panel built on CLSI or EUCAST breakpoints.
CLSI or EUCAST panel?
CLSI and EUCAST publish different antibiotic selections and breakpoints. Choose the panel edition that matches the guideline your laboratory reports against, so that the MICs are interpreted with the same rules you use for conventional AST.
