Inoclic Single-Use Inoculation Rods for Inoculum Standardization (AST), Short 86 mm / Long 156 mm, Packs of 250

Inoclic - single-use inoculation rod for the standardization of the bacterial inoculum in antibiotic susceptibility testing (Kirby Bauer Method). Its use is simple and fast, and allows for the inoculation on agar culture media or in tube storage media, as well as suspension of bacteria in liquid media. It can also be used to prepare identification plates for mass spectrometry.

INOCLIC® is directly inspired by this principle, keeping the simplicity of the process, and eliminating defects. INOCLIC® is recommended for all traditional uses of platinum wire such as inoculation of agar culture media or preservation media in tubes by deep central puncture, or the suspension of bacteria in liquid media. INOCLIC® is particularly suitable for the pr oduction of standardised bacterial inocula for antibiotic susceptibility testing. INOCLIC® rods are disposable and are disposed of after use. They can be used directly by hand.

Inoclic is supplied as short rods (86 mm) or long rods (156 mm) in packs of 250; the 5,000- and 10,000-rod boxes are 20 and 40 packs of 250.

How it works

1. Hold an Inoclic between two fingers by the end you will not use, vertically (90°) to the agar surface.
2. Pick 3 to 5 colonies: pass through the first colony and the agar down to the bottom of the dish, then touch the surface of the following colonies.
3. Put the collected colonies in suspension in a tube of water adapted to the technique (SIRscan Tubes, 0.7 ml): incline the tube, place the end of the rod on the moist side and release the colonies with an up-and-down and rotating movement.
4. Close and vortex the tube, dip a sterile SIRscan Swab, wring it against the tube wall and swab the whole agar surface in three directions.

Storage and handling

Store in the original packaging, in a dry place and at room temperature.

• Do not handle the rods by the side intended for picking colonies.
• Do not flame-sterilise the rods before use.
• Not recommended for colonies with a diameter smaller than or equal to the rod itself, nor for abnormally mucous colonies.
