Frequently asked questions
How do I choose an NGS library prep kit?
Match four things: your application (DNA-seq, RNA-seq, single-cell, targeted), your input amount and sample quality (fresh, FFPE, cfDNA), your sequencing platform, and your throughput or automation needs. Our specialists can recommend the right chemistry for your project.
How much DNA or RNA input do I need for library prep?
Standard preps typically use tens to hundreds of nanograms, but low-input chemistries go far lower — Takara's ThruPLEX builds DNA libraries from picogram-level fragmented DNA, and SMARTer Stranded Pico kits build total RNA-seq libraries from picograms of RNA or directly from cells.
What is the difference between full-length and 3' single-cell RNA-seq?
Full-length chemistry such as SMART-Seq captures entire transcripts, enabling isoform, SNV, and gene-fusion analysis with high per-cell sensitivity. Droplet-based 3' methods count transcript ends across many more cells. Full-length suits deep characterization of fewer cells; 3' suits large-scale cell-atlas surveys.
Which kit works for degraded or FFPE RNA?
Stranded total RNA-seq kits designed for low-quality input — such as the SMARTer Stranded Pico line, which integrates rRNA depletion and handles degraded and FFPE samples — are built exactly for this. For FFPE or cell-free DNA, ThruPLEX chemistry is designed for fragmented, low-input material.
What is spatial genomics?
Spatial methods map gene expression back to tissue location. Curio Seeker performs whole-transcriptome spatial mapping of tissue sections, and Curio Trekker adds spatial context to standard single-cell workflows — both are NGS-based kits from Takara Bio's Curio line.
