Frequently asked questions

Which Gram stain reagents are needed?

A Gram stain uses four solutions - crystal violet (R1), Lugol's iodine (R2), a decolorizer (R3) and a fuchsin or safranin counterstain (R4). The Axongram range supplies each in 500 ml and 950 ml bottles for manual benches and automated stainers.

What is a urine dip-slide?

A dip-slide such as UrinAX carries two or three agar media (CLED, MacConkey and an optional selective medium) on a paddle that is dipped into the urine at the point of sampling, so the culture starts immediately and the colony count can be read after incubation.

Who supplies these consumables in Israel?

Danyel Biotech supplies the Axon Lab microbiology consumables and stains in Israel. Prices are quoted on request - use Request a Quote on any product page.

Buying Guide

Match the consumable to the protocol and the instrument. Stain solutions are chosen by the staining method (Gram, Ziehl-Neelsen, Kinyoun, auramine fluorescence) and by the bottle size your manual bench or automated stainer takes; saline and enrichment broths by the volume per tube the inoculum or screening protocol needs; transport and homogenization tubes by the sample (stool, urine, tissue) and the medium or additive required downstream; and QC slides by the stain they control. Check CE / IVDR status, shelf life and the storage temperature before ordering.
