Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between rpm and xg (RCF), and which should I use?
Rpm is how fast the rotor spins; xg (relative centrifugal force) is the actual force on the sample, which also depends on rotor radius. The same rpm produces different forces on different rotors, so protocols should always be set and reported in xg. Most digital centrifuges display both and convert at a key press.
When do I need a fixed-angle rotor versus a swing-out rotor?
Fixed-angle rotors pellet faster and tolerate higher g-forces, making them the default for DNA precipitation and general pelleting. Swing-out rotors let tubes swing horizontal, so pellets form flat at the bottom and gradient layers stay intact — better for cell separations and blood tubes. Check which rotor types your model accepts before buying.
When is a refrigerated centrifuge necessary?
Whenever spins are long or fast enough to heat the chamber and your analyte is temperature-sensitive — RNA, enzymes, or live cells. High-speed runs can warm samples well above room temperature within minutes. Refrigerated units such as Benchmark's MC-24R are built to hold set temperatures, typically 4 °C, even at maximum speed.
What g-force and capacity do I need for spin-column kits?
Silica spin-column protocols typically call for 10,000–16,000 xg in 1.5–2.0 ml tubes, so choose a microcentrifuge reaching at least 16,000 xg — the MC-24 series tops out at 16,800 xg. For 15 ml or 50 ml work such as cell harvesting, a larger benchtop unit with matching adapters is the better fit.
What is a microplate centrifuge used for?
A plate spinner briefly spins microplates to pull droplets and condensation off well walls and seals before qPCR, sequencing, or storage. It prevents cross-contamination when seals are removed and improves optical readings. Benchmark's PlateFuge series is a compact, dedicated option for this quick spin-down step.
Who supplies Benchmark Scientific centrifuges in Israel?
As Benchmark Scientific's official Israeli distributor, Danyel Biotech stocks the centrifuge range locally — from MyFuge minis to refrigerated high-speed models — and backs it with technical support. Use the quote button on any product page or ask the team for rotor and adapter advice.
