Of these, the anti-ribosomal antibodies (ARA) are the best characterized. Autoantibodies against ribosomal P-proteins are highly specific markers for diagnostics of systemic lupus erythematosus, because they rarely occur in other autoimmune diseases.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eARA are found in only about 10 % of randomly selected SLE patients, but are detected in up to 40 % of SLE patients whose disease status is active. Anti-Rib-P detection is recommended in cases of suspected SLE when antibodies against Sm antigens and double-stranded DNA are absent.
