A comprehensive CSF profil includes calculation of the specific anti-\u003ci\u003eBorrelia\u003c\/i\u003e antibody index (AI) as an evidence for \u003ci\u003eBorrelia\u003c\/i\u003e specific intrathecal antibody production. Calculation of AI is based on the determination of anti-\u003ci\u003eBorrelia\u003c\/i\u003e antibodies in a CSF sample and a corresponding serum sample from the same patient. The detection of an elevated \u003ci\u003eBorrelia\u003c\/i\u003e antibody index remains the main confirmatory tool in neuroborreliosis diagnostics.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn these assays, recombinant highly specific immunodominant antigens of the three major human pathogenic \u003ci\u003eBorrelia\u003c\/i\u003e species are used as coating antigens.
