Autoantibodies of the M2 subtype bind to the E2 subunits of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDC-E2), the branched chain-2-oxoacid dehydrogenase complex (BCOADC-E2), and the 2-oxoglutarate-dehydrogease complex E (OGDC-E2). AMA-M2 are a highly sensitive and specific. They represent a serological hallmark of primary biliary cirrhosis.
